Radar gun for speeders
A 40mph speed restriction is about to come into force on Whitmore Road between Hanchurch Cross Roads and the start of the 30mph restriction just west of Fairway, Trentham. It is to be hoped that it has the required effect. Stone Local Policing Unit will be encouraged to bring their mobile radar speed gun into the area to discourage all the short cutters from speeding through the area.

Next Parish Council meeting
The next meeting of Swynnerton Parish Council will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 6th September in Swynnerton Village Hall, preceded by a Rights of Way Committee Meeting at 7.15pm.

All rights of way opened
All rights of way and public open space within all wards of Swynnerton Parish Councils area are now open for use. Farmers and landowners would appreciate the co-operation of walkers with any local precautions that they may have in place.

Controversy over traffic calming
The traffic calming measures coming into Swynnerton from the Eccleshall direction are to be modified by Staffordshire County Highways Department to reduce the disturbance to local residents. As the project was designed and installed by County Highways under a partnership agreement it is up to them to alleviate the problems that they have caused.

Application sought
A controversial planning application has been received for the breaking of cars and selling of second hand parts (a scrap/breakers yard) at a residential property in the green-belt on the borders of Trentham and Hanchurch. It is to be hoped that the Borough Council deal with it in the only way appropriate for such an area !

Whitmore road improvements
The lighting on the Whitmore Road, Trentham to Hanchurch, is to be upgraded, between the River Trent Bridge at Trentham and the junction with Northwood Lane. It will be to the same lighting standard as between Hanchurch Cross Roads and the junction with Northwood Lane.

Yarnfield welcomes traffic calming
The traffic calming measures in Yarnfield village seem to be working well, the Parish Council has only received positive reactions to the installations. The Yarnfield Village Forum may wish to note the date of the next meeting of the Parish Council.

Toposcope unveiled
At the unveiling of the Toposcope by Lord Stafford on Monday evening, he stated that once the Foot and Mouth all clear is fully in operation, he will level the site, put in a seat and put a fence around, with a gate from the lane onto the site. He seemed delighted with the Toposcope itself and very pleased to be involved in the Parish Council's Millennium Project.

Previous News

23rd June, 2001
Lord Stafford is to unveil the Millennium Toposcope in Swynnerton on Monday 25th of June. This is a revised date due to Foot and Mouth outbreak restrictions in the area meaning that the original date had to be postponed. Lord Stafford is also to present a seat for the site.

The misinformation of the Yarnfield Village Forum is becoming a concern for the Parish Council, as some of the information that they are disseminating is of an erroneous nature. Especially with regard to funding cost of traffic calming and monies contributed by developers for highways improvements.

Traffic calming to the South of the village is the subject of some controversy. Do you want it to remain or be removed ? Contact Staffordshire County Highways with your opinion.

18th April, 2001
Following a resolution at the last Parish Council Meeting, here are the details of actions and forthcoming events.

The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on Thursday 26th April 2001 in Swynnerton Village Hall at 7.30pm. A representative of Stone Police will give a presentation on recent changes in policing in the area. There will be reports from the Chairman, Borough and County Councillors, followed by a public open forum. All residents of the Swynnerton Political Parish will be welcome at the meeting where at the appropriate time they may make comment and ask questions.

The traffic calming measures through the village are now in place, along with those in Yarnfield. As is the toposcope, on the lane just outside the village, almost opposite the water tower. This will be officially dedicated later in the year by Lord Stafford, who has donated the land upon which it stands.

All footpaths in the Parish are at present closed. There is a hope that the footpath through Trentham Park Golf Club may be opened with the approval of the County Council, as there is no livestock anywhere near this particular right of way.
